Damascus skies erupt with service to air missile fire as the US launches an attack on Syria LABOUR MP Ronnie Campbell has told told of his fears after yesterday’s Allied airstrikes in Syria.

During the early hours a series of joint missile attacks were launched by the US, UK and France in response to President Assad’s suspected chemical weapons attack in Douma a week ago.

But as US President Donald Trump tweeted that the operation was a “perfectly executed airstrike”, Blyth MP Mr Campbell told The Sunday Sun how he would have voted against the action.

And the Labour veteran said he is now fearful of the consequenc­es.

He said: “I have been watching it on the TV. My first reaction was ‘hopefully the casualties are low’, which is the case. But my second reaction was it means Assad can now start his bombing campaign and kill more women and children. He will say, ‘now I have to be wary of using chemicals’, but the bombing will continue.”

“And now we just have to wait for the reaction of Russia.”

The strikes began at 2am British Time and destroyed important infrastruc­ture at three sites connected to the Syrian regime’s chemical weapons programme, according to the allies.
