A THRILLING zip wire across the hallowed turf of St James’ Park helped to raise thousands of pounds for charity.

The Newcastle United Foundation announced its now annual zip slide event generated £15,000 towards its projects across the North East.

Adrenaline junkies committed to bringing in £150 of sponsorship for the charity in return for the exciting experience.

More than 70 people raised enough money to take part.

The NU Foundation uses football to help disadvantaged children, young people and families across the North East.

The money raised will go towards the charity’s projects supporting disability football and employability support.

Communications and events manager Yvette Thompson said: “We’ve been running the zip slide event for a couple of years now and it’s always great to see so many participants come out and support us.

“The foundation is always looking to reach even more disadvantaged children and young people in the North East The zip wire above the ground and the zip slide is one of the many ways fundraisers help us to achieve this.

“We want to say a big thank you to all the indi- viduals and corporate teams who’ve taken their time to fundraise and, of course, gave up their Saturday to take part in this amazing event.”
