Dirty clothes fly-tipped outside former school
Fly tipping on Lindisfarne Drive in Gateshead FLY-TIPPERS dumped soiled kids’ clothes and football boots outside a former primary school.
The heap of grubby goods was ditched in Gateshead’s Lindisfarne Road, near the old Lindisfarne Primary.
Gateshead Council staff may now wade through the rubbish to try to identify the culprits.
Recently, the council launched an online tool to report fly-tipping. It also uses CCTV to aid staff in catching culprits.
Last week, a suspected fly-tipper’s car was seized by police in Gateshead.
Residents sounded the alarm after spotting the suspected fly-tipper dump their junk in Beacon Lough. Police and council staff swooped and, after quizzing the suspect, seized the car.
Anneliese Hutchinson, service director Development, Transport and Public Protection said: “This really shows how local people can play a hugely beneficial role in helping to tackle fly tipping in their area.”
In 2015, Gateshead was named one of the UK’s fly-tipping capitals.
In Britain, fly-tippers strike over 100 times an hour, costing the country £50m a year.
