East, west, home’s best for North staycation fans
GEORDIES SUPPORTING BRIT ECONOMY
NEWCASTLE is the staycation capital of Britain according to a nationwide survey.
It was carried out by Travelodge which revealed that 82% of Geordies asked said they planned to holiday in the UK this summer.
The survey revealed they were among many Brits planning to shun Europe to support the British economy.
Heading for the seaside was the most popular choice for Geordie holidaymakers with Cornwall coming out top followed by Devon and Bournemouth.
Next came city breaks with London, Edinburgh and Bath being Geordie holidaymakers favourite destinations in 2018.
The third most popular type of summer holiday for Geordies was a rural break with the Lake District, Scottish Highlands and Cotswolds heading the list.
The study also revealed the growing popularity of multi-location UK holidays with 27% of Geordie holidaymakers expanding their vacation across two or three locations.
The Travelodge holiday report surveys 3,000 British adults annually.
According to its findings, collectively British holidaymakers will boost the UK economy by £30 billion in 2018.
The report also revealed that 38% of Britons want to holiday in the UK rather than Europe in order to support their economy.
Shakila Ahmed, Travelodge spokesperson said: “Our annual holiday index confirms that we have become a Staycation Nation. More Britons than ever are exploring what makes Great Britain so great which is great news for our economy. Also 2018 is a great year for UK tourism; we have a royal hat trick with a new baby, wedding and the Queen’s 65th Coronation [anniversary].”
While Newcastle topped the staycation list, people from Wolverhampton came second with 77% of those asked saying they’ll be holidaying in the UK this year, and third came Liverpool at 76%.
