Fry signs five-year contract
TONY Pulis has shown a commitment towards the Boro’s youth system by signing central defender Dael Fry on a new five-year contract.
The contract offer is a clear indication that Boro rate the 20-year very highly and see him as a player for the future.
The 20-year-old, who has been with the Boro since the age of seven, has been a near permanent fixture in the first team squad this season.
He has made 17 appearances and is well established as understudy to regular centre-backs Daniel Ayala and Ben Gibson.
Dael made his first team debut in August 2015 at the Dael Fry age of 17 and includes a loan spell at Rotherham United as part of his learning process.
Fry was part of the England Under-20 squad which won the World Cup in South Korea, beating Venezuela 1-0 in the final, last summer and has since stepped up to the Under-21 squad.
He took part in England Under 21s’ victory over Scotland at the Riverside Stadium in October and has won a further two caps at this level.
Pulis said: “Dael is an up-and-coming player who we’re enjoying working with.
“He’s had a taste of the first team and he’s been in and around the squad.
“He knows that he has a lot of hard work ahead but this is a good opportunity for him.”
