Foalle grabs winner as Seahorses shock Town

- BY ANDREW McDONNELL

Matty Pattison in action for South Shields in their FA Cup victory over Garforth Town yesterday JACK Foalle scored a dramatic late winner as Whitley Bay stunned EvoStik Northern Premier side Whitby Town in the FA Cup.

Despite creating numerous chances, it was still goalless going into the final 20 minutes of the game – despite Whitby being awarded a penalty.

Junior Mundal was fouled in the penalty area on 74 minutes, but Dale Hopson’s spot-kick was saved brilliantly by Tom Flynn.

Under a minute later, the visitors were reduced to 10 men after Jassem Sukar was shown his second yellow card of the match.

Peter Glen-Ravenhill’s cross was headed home by Foalle on 90 minutes to send Whitley through to the second qualifying round for just the second time in seven years.

Whitley were coming into the game in blistering form, having scored six goals in each of their last three games, including the win against Barnoldswick Town in the last round of the competition.

There were early warning signs for the hosts though as Whitby midfielder Hopson was inches away from linking up with striker Mondal on a couple of occasions.

After the fairly even start to the match, the first chance of the game fell to the visitors on 18 minutes as Mondal struck across goal and just wide.

Whitby started to turn the screw thereafter and were starting to enjoy some good fortune down the right flank.
