Mystery flat death is probed

-

Police on Stanton Street POLICE are continuing to investigate what happened to a man found dead in a flat.

However, officers do not believe anyone else was involved in the tragedy.

The 28-year-old’s body was found at a home on Stanton Street, in the Arthur’s Hill area of Newcastle, at around 11.10am on Tuesday.

Police have been treating the death as “unexplained” but do not believe it to be suspicious.

The man’s identity has not been released.

A Police spokesman said: “Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances around the death of a man at an address on Stanton Street but they do not believe that there is any third party involvement. A report will be prepared for the coroner in due course.”

Police were on the street for more than 24 hours after the grim discovery.

Locals said they had heard rumours someone had died, but were in the dark about what had actually happened.

One 35-year-old man, who did not want to be named, said: “Theres’s always something happening in this street to be honest. I heard rumours to do with a body.”

Anne Kelly has lived on Stanton Street for more than 30 years. The 74-yearold said three men lived in the flat.

“Four police cars came yesterday morning,” she said. “There’s about three people living there but they keep changing them over. This was a nice area at one time, but I just keep myself to myself now.”
