Kelly Brexit backers have nothing to fear...right?
increased surveillance before meeting her maker (or not).
If you do nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear.
I think it is fair to say that the majority of people who would be behind a real life RIPA are those who wouldn’t be at the sharp end of its enforcement. Wide ranging police or security clampdowns tend to disproportionately hit ethnic communities.
I would argue it’s also fair to say the vast majority of RIPA supporters would be Brexit voters as their main concern was immigration and as such there is a symbiotic link.
So, if we should accept more intrusive surveillance because only those who have done something wrong should worry, surely we can accept a second EU referendum because if Brexit truly is the will of the people, the will of the people will prevail again. The people of Britain have spoken, according to Leave. If we have a second EU referendum it would give them the chance to speak again. What is there to fear if they’re so sure the UK wants Brexit?
The reason why they won’t accept it is because they believe they’ll lose. Leave was voted for by a close 52% to 48%. A re-run would see the tables turned in spectacular fashion, I would suggest.
The public is wiser and more knowledgeable today about what is at stake and how it will affect them. The grim reality of their choice more than two years ago has now dawned on them.
