Mixed results after drop in temperature

THE much chillier and variable conditions of the last week has had a marked effect is local water. Some waters have continued to provide the fabulous sport we have been enjoying all summer, while others have seen anglers struggling for any sort of result.

The Angel of the North continues with its terrific form – in an outstanding week pleasure anglers were catching so many fish they were having to take breaks to rest their aching arms!

In the matches it’s the usual story of you need a “ton” to frame. John Foster weighed in 213lb 5ozs to win last Sunday’s Open on Lookout Lake, John Dryden followed with 108lb 1oz ahead of Dean Appleby with 106lb 8ozs.

It was a bit different for the Senior Citizens and Disabled of the Big Waters AC when they turned up for their final match of their series at the Big Waters lake.

Surfboards would have been a better choice rather than fishing tackle as atrocious conditions greeted them! Nevertheless, the hardy few decided to fish the maelstrom, unfortunately a regretful choice. Everyone blanked, with not even a bite recorded, but well done for trying! Steve Freer took the title with 38 points, Les Goreham followed with 37 points and Roy Small completed the top three with 35 points.

The above club fished their annual Dissington Trophy last Sunday where a nice 4lb-plus ide and a few bits gave the win to Barry Evans, Steve Freer followed with 2lb 10oz ahead of Paul O’Donnell with 2lb 5ozs.

Sunday’s Open at Eden Grange was won by Craig Grant with 58lbs, ahead of Paul Elliot with 49lb 5oz and Allan Blyth with 40lb 10ozs.
