Dunston through as they maintain superb start

DUNSTON UTS maintained their outstanding start to the season as they moved into the first round proper of the FA Vase with a 2-0 win at Northern League Division One rivals Ryhope CW.

Strikers Scott Heslop and Liam Brooks were on target for the 2012 Vase winners – as they made it 10 games unbeaten in all competitions this season.

Seaham Red Star put their league struggles behind them as second-half strikes from Dan Wilson and Vinny Gash helped them to a 2-0 win at North West Counties League club Daisy Hill.

Channon North hit a hat-trick and Blyth Spartans loanee Jack Butler made it two goals in as many games as Ashington secured a 6-2 home win in an entertaining affair with Crook Town.

Nathan Steel was another Northern League striker to score a treble as he put his side on their way to a 4-2 win against Barnoldswick Town at the KGV Stadium.

Ian Chandler’s hopes of securing a fifth FA Vase are still alive after Bishop Auckland saw off a determined West Allotment Celtic side to secure their place in the next round.

However, the two sides needed extra-time to be separated but a Chris Winn brace in the second period eventually helped the Two Blues to record a 3-1 victory.

Consett also saw their tie head into an extra 30 minutes but they exited the competition as a Jake Day goal gave Bridlington Town a 1-0 win in Yorkshire.

Brandon United won by the odd goal in five against Division Two rivals Washington.

Bedlington Terriers were grateful for goals from Stephen Young and Dylan Williamson in their 2-0 home win against Redcar Athletic.

Dan Flounders, Kyle Morris and Kris Summers got the goals to lead Billingham Town to a 3-1 win against Birtley Town.

However, fellow Division Two clubs Northallerton Town and Tow Law Town both saw their Vase runs ended.

Richard Walker’s goal wasn’t enough to keeper Northallerton in the competition as they fell to a 2-1 defeat against Vase debutants Steeton – and Tow Law Town crashed to a 5-2 loss at Nelson after playing the entire second-half with 10 men following Matty Fisher’s red card.

Ryton and Crawcrook Albion put up a brave display before being knocked out by Northern Counties East club Garforth Town.

Scott Jasper got Albion back level just a minute after Joe Colley had fired the visitors ahead at Kingsley Park, but there was heartache for Tony Fawcett’s side when Devonte Morton’s goal on 74 minutes ensured that the Yorkshire outfit progressed.

Penrith’s Vase hopes were also left in tatters after they were well beaten at home by Charnock Richard.

Willie Paul got the Bonny Blues goal in a 4-1 defeat for his side.
