West End boys keep fantastic run going

SUNDERLAND West End stretched their unbeaten league run to eight games with a comprehensive 5-1 win at Gateshead Leam Rangers.

Lee Smith led the way with a fine hat-trick and both Adam Drysdale and Kieron Martin also got on the scoresheet for Anthony Nelson’s side.

Dean McCallum grabbed a consolation for the hosts.

Horden CW claimed their third league win of the season as they beat Annfield Plain.

A first-half brace from Liam Appleby was added to after the interval by a Matty Pattison strike as Horden completed a 3-0 win at Derwent Park.

Darlington Town Reserves reached the first round of the Total Sport Alan Hood Charity Cup with a penalty shoot-out win at in-form Harton and Westoe CW. The two sides played out a 1-1 draw in normal time but the visitors secured a 5-3 win on penalties.

Ryan Bolam scored twice to help league leaders Hebburn Town Reserves to a 4-1 home win against Darlington RA in round one of the same cup.

Coxhoe Athletic finally secured their first win of the season, as two goals from Stephen Clifford and one each for Scott Young and Ben Foster gave them a 5-1 win over West Auckland Tunns in the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup preliminary round.

There were two TWR Shipowners Charity Cup ties yesterday and one of them produced a 10-goal thriller and a penalty shoot-out.

Junior Musandi and Stewart Bath both scored twice for Wolviston and Matty Garnder and Jackson Waller did the same for Hartlepool FC as their sides played out a remarkable 5-5 draw.

But it was Hartlepool that made it through to the first round proper with a 4-2 win in the shoot-out.

The drama wasn’t quite on the same level in Richmond Town’s first round tie with Silksworth CW, but their game still produced a stunning finish.

Martin Butterworth looked to have put Richmond through when he scored on 88 minutes – but the visitors levelled through Harry Munday just moments later.

There was even later heartache for Silksworth though as Kallum Holbrook sent Richmond into round two with a goal in the fourth minute of injury-time.
