Relegation rival issues battle cry

-

WIGAN Athletic captain Sam Morsy has delivered a rallying cry to their supporters and warned their relegation rivals they will do their utmost to avoid relegation this season.

The Latics are the Championship form team, with no side taking more points than them since January.

That fine run lifted them up to 14th in the standings on Tuesday night after a 3-0 win over relegation rivals Stoke

City.

However, on Wednesday the club confirmed they had entered administration and the EFL have sanctioned a 12-point deduction that will be applied at the end of the season.

With that applied, it takes Wigan to the foot of the Championship table, four points from safety, boosting the survival hopes of Huddersfield Town, Hull City and Middlesbrough, among others.

Morsy has insisted that he has full belief his in-form teammates can lift the club clear of danger.

“This is just a quick message to the fans from the players and staff,” Morsy said. “We know that you’d love to be with us but we’re going to give it our absolute all until the end of the season.

“A lot of things have happened over the last few days which none of us expected but I want you guys to know we will fight until the end.

“The most important thing is keeping the club afloat and trying to stay in the division. In the last six games we will give it our absolute all and if we can do something together and stay in the league, that would be amazing.

“I’d like to thank everyone for their continued support. The Wigan fans have
