A NORTH East radio DJ who was caught with indecent images of children has been found dead.

The body of Thomas Davies – who hosted shows on TFM, Magic, Smooth and Star Radio – was found in a Sunderland property after police received reports of a missing man.

The 54-year-old had pleaded guilty to three charges of making indecent images of children earlier this year and was due to be sentenced.

An investigation is under way but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “We can confirm that on July 16 we received a report of concern for the welfare of a 54-year-old man who had gone missing from an address in Sunderland. Enquiries to locate him led officers to an address in Sunderland, where the man was sadly found deceased.

“An investigation into the circumstances around his death is ongoing but there is not believed to be any third party involvement. A report has been prepared for the coroner and an inquest will be held in due course.”

Davies had been due to be sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court on July 17.

The court previously heard how he tried to argue that he only had the images because he was working on a documentary about the issue. However, a judge told him that whatever his reason for downloading these images there was no lawful excuse.

And the prosecution said they did not believe Davies’ explanation of his offences.

Ben Campbell, defending, said Davies understood that by merely having the material he had become part of the ‘market’ for indecent images of children.
