IN the Northumber­land and Tyneside Cricket League, Annfield Plain were in trouble early on, with Consett’s James Radcliffe claiming 3-23, then Ewan Mccabe claimed 4-31 and have the hosts all out for 124 runs. Consett opener John Meadows then scored 45 and fellow opener Robbie Hockaday made a match-winning 64 not out and sealed the nine wicket win on 127-1. Whickham made a positive start at Washington, with openers Samuel Brown (40) and Mick Armstrong (56) putting on 77 runs for the first wicket, but

Niall Cutter then claimed an impressive 6-28, to peg them back and they eventually made 155 all out.

The home side then lost both openers with only 15 runs on the board, but Kamran Mansoor steadied the ship with 36 runs. Ludo Williams then made 29, but a crucial score of 34 not out by Darren Hickey eased them home to victory on 156-8, despite Lawrence Davey claiming 3-22 and Matthew Rodger 3-33.

Alnmouth & Lesbury made a positive start at home to Ashington Rugby, as Jonathan Ridley made 33 and Paul Straker hit 75. Laurie Robson then fired 72 in a total of 229-5. In reply, the visitors got off to a good start as opener Matthew Tanney made 34 and Cory Milburn hit 54, and at the time of going to press they were 169-6 off 43 overs.

The matches between Blaydon v Stocksfiel­d, Morpeth v Swalwell and Newcastle City v Alnwick, were all abandoned, ground unfit.
