SHE just wanted to give her daughter a memorable birthday present.

But Marj Iredale has been left more than £1,400 out of pocket after she tried to buy four Ed Sheeran tickets through website Viagogo.

Marj bought the tickets as a birthday present for her daughter Laura Forrest.

Tickets for the April 19 show at the Metro Radio Arena first went on sale on January 31 but, as the pair attempted to buy tickets, the web page crashed and the they were redirected towards secondary ticket website Viagogo.

They found four tickets up for grabs, which they believed to come to £262.99, but to Marj’s horror she later found out this was the price per ticket – not the total.

After completing the purchase, the pair were horrified to find they had been charged £1,421.38.

Marj immediately tried to contact Viagogo to stop the transaction but her credit card has already been charged.

Marj, 47, of Riverside Dene in the West End of Newcastle, said: “This whole thing is absolutely appalling.

“We thought this would be a great birthday present and it would be a good night out but it has just turned into a nightmare.

“I had calculated that £262.99 for four tickets would work out at around market price. I would never have said yes if they had said it was £262 each. “This is money I cannot afford. “From that day onwards, it has been a battle.

“We have sent numerous emails and they only had one contact number which was automated and you were asked to press buttons if you wanted to buy or sell. There was no option to speak to anyone.” In total, Marj shelled out £269.99 for each ticket, a l o n g with a booking fee of around £300,, VAT of around £59 and a delivery charge of nearly £10.

Laura, 29, a shop assistant, added: “It showed the price of £262.99 for four tickets. Nowhere did it state that the price was per ticket, and there was no mention of booking fees or VAT.

“We confirmed the purchasease and went straight into payment details.”

The pair sent a number of emails to Viagogo and the firm eventually replied saying it would not issue a

refund and the only solution was to relist the tickets, providing a link to instructions on how to go about selling tickets. Marj said: “I would not want to resell the tickets – that would make us just as bad as them. Who would want to buy these tickets for £1,421? “We have had so much because of this. “I am having difficulty sleeping and I don’t know what to do.” Repeated attempts to contact Viagogo have been made but no response was forthcoming. stress FOUR shops could be built in the car park of a supermarket as part of a new scheme.

Morrisons wants to construct the retail units within the parking area of its store in Hillheads Road, Whitley Bay.

The firm, which has submitted the proposals to North Tyneside Council, says the project would help to create jobs and give customers more choice.

A Morrisons spokeswoman said: “The planning application for four new retail units at our Whitley Bay store is part of work to add more popular and useful services to our stores and will also create jobs for local people.”
