Wilks flies flag for Britain in a battle for final spot

-

DURHAM’S Guy Wilks was last night sitting 14th in the standings after the first day of the Bompiso Rallycross of Portugal.

As the FIA World Rallycross Championship headed to the Montelegre track for its second round of the season, Wilks – the only permanent Brit in the series – was hoping to build on his strong result last time out.

The Karting North East owner arrived lying seventh overall after narrowly missing out on the final at the opening round, but having taken some high-profile scalps, including Ken Block and Sebastien Loeb.

After finishing first qualify- ing 12th overall, the second session proved to be a bit harder, and he ended up 17th out of the 22 cars running.

Luckily for the double British Rally champ, his points from the opening session kept him higher up overall and he finished the day 14th.

It puts him in good stead to, at the very least, reach the semifinals later today, and this time he will be hoping he can make it into the final six later this afternoon.
