Heaton Stannington put the Stockton defence under pressure in the six-yard area HEATON Stannington entertained Ebac Northern League Division Two champions Stockton Town at Grounsell Park, hoping to finish in fourth place themselves, following an excellent season.

Heaton went close after three minutes, when Gary Dixon’s volley clipped the bar, with goalkeeper Michael Arthur well beaten and then in the 15th minute, a great turn from striker Dan Robinson, but his cross was just too far ahead of Dixon to connect.

Stockton came alive after half an hour when Kallum Hannah drove his shot from 25 yards, which goalkeeper Matthew Smith did well to save, and defender Lee Johnson cleared the ball off the line.

After 39 minutes Heaton were awarded a penalty, when Johnson found Robinson in the box, but he was fouled and Gary Yates made no mistake from the spot, beating Arthur to make it 1-0.

On the stroke of half-time, Dean Imray had a good chance but scuffed his shot when it looked easier to score.

In the second half, Hannah had another shot which was deflected wide and three minutes later he was denied again by goalkeeper Smith.

Robinson then nearly made it 2-0, but his shot was saved by Arthur and three minutes later Stockton got their equaliser when Sonni Coleman cut in from wide on the right
