HEATON STANNINGTON 1 STOCKTON 1

-

Heaton Stannington give Northern League Second Division champions Stockton Town a guard of honour before yesterday’s game at Grounsell Park and with only the keeper to beat, chipped a lovely finish into the net to make it 1-1.

The game was end to end now, with Fred Woodhouse hitting the post for Stockton and then Dixon heading just wide for Heaton, following a cross from Josh Holland.

Arthur made a great block to deny substitute Jonathan Wright with ten minutes remaining and up the other end Joseph Carter fired over from 25 yards. Stockton nearly won it with seven minutes remaining, but Adam Nicholson’s header was kicked off the line by Jordan Ray, to keep the scores level at one apiece.

Heaton Stannington’s assistant manager Geoff Walker said: “It was a fair result and a very good, competitive game.

“Our point ensured we had our highest ever finish in the Ebac Northern League Division Two and every- one at our club would like to congratulate Stockton Town on winning the league, they are a very good, strong and organised team.”

Stockton Town manager Michael Dunwell said: “We deserved a draw and after winning the league last week, we were still keen to keep our unbeaten run going and finish strongly.

“We are now unbeaten since November 1 and we are very proud of that.”

Stockton Town were presented with the Division Two title award at the ground and will now play in the Ebac Northern League Division One next season.
