Beck hits spot for Quakers

-

A SECOND-HALF penalty by Mark Beck, his 17th goal of the season, gave Quakers their fourth successive win to stay in fourth place in the Vanarama National League North.

Quakers are almost certain to finish in a play-off position, but will be unable to appear in the play-offs because the FA have said that their ground isn’t up to standard, although the club have appealed.

Quakers had a chance in the second minute, when a long throw by Gary Brown was flicked on by Mark Beck, and Nathan Cartman couldn’t get a firm connection a yard or so out.

Telford had a chance on 20 minutes when they broke away and Hughes picked the ball up on the left-hand side, stepped inside, and struck a low shot that Bartlett saved low down to his left.

Quakers replied when Gillies crossed from the left for Syers to head just over the bar, and just on half-time, Quakers nearly took the lead when Gillies fired a free-kick into the box and Beck flicked the ball just wide of the post.

Quakers were awarded a penalty on 52 minutes when Nathan Cartman’s backheel released David Ferguson into the box, and he was barged to the ground by Dwayne Samuels. Beck tucked away the spot-kick.

Quakers nearly got a second when Beck fired just wide of the right hand post, and at the other end Bartlett saved at full stretch from Danny Westwood.
