Cumbrians lift the Charity Cup

-

CLEATMOR Moor Celtic saw off the challenge of Richmond Town in yesterday’s TWR Shipowners Charity Cup final at Earls Orchard Park, a 4-2 win securing the trophy for the Cumbrians.

In front of a crowd of over 300 spectators, Cleator Moor opened the scoring with an own goal from Sean Radford. The ball hit the back of Radford’s head, before looping over goalkeeper Karl Latcham.

The rest of the half was uneventful, with Cleator Moor going into the break 1-0 up.

Three minutes into the second half, Richmond Town equalised with Martin Butterworth’s left-foot shot from the edge of the box, giving keeper Craig Devine no chance.

After 50 minutes, Cleator Moor went 2-1 up with a rightfoot finish from Callum Birdsall. But Richmond Town again pulled the scores level at 2-2, when Wayne Gredziak’s header was buried into the top corner of the net.

Three minutes from the end, Birdsall got his second for Cleator, with a header at the front post, to give Cleator Moor a 3-2 lead.

In injury time, with Richmond counter-attacking to force a late equaliser for the third time, Cleator broke through and Josh Charlton’s left-foot shot was fired into the bottom corner, for a full-time score of 4-2. STEVE CLARKE
