TV and film legend Ricky Tomlinson has sent a good luck message to his long time friend and comedian Roy ‘ Chubby’ Brown, after it was announced that Chubby will star in the next series of TV show Benidorm.

Middlesbrough-born Chubby will be joined by The Chuckle Brothers and Hale and Pace as producers have added various cameo roles to the long-running series, set for screens in January 2018

Ricky, the veteran actor and star of The Royle Family, is set to appear in Middlesbrough on Saturday, June 24 in his own cabaret evening at Middlesbrough Football Club. Ricky said: “I’m really pleased for my great pal Roy, he will be top fun on the show.

“He has been filling venues for decades all across the UK and has a huge following. He will bring his many thousands of fans to the show, and already his involvement in has resulted in some fantastic coverage for the series which will go out next year.”

He added: “I’m hoping to catch Chubby when I’m in town. It will be good to see him and spend time with him and chat about his new telly role. I was in Middlesbrough last year for a sell-out charity show and I was thrilled to see Roy sitting in the audience lending his support to the event.”

Ricky will be questioned about his long career at the very top of an award-winning career.

He will be interviewed by BBC Tees radio presenter Paul ‘Goffy’ Gough about his life on Ricky Tomlinson Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown and off the screen.

Ricky has also added North East entertainer Tony Washington to the bill. Tony is well known for his updated tribute to Bobby Thompson, the legendary Geordie comic.

Ricky, 77, said: “It will be a night full of laughter, live music and memories and it will be great to have Tony Washington with us at Middlesbrough Football Club as I loved Bobby Thompson.

“I know how he packed the clubs right across the North East for many years and having Tommy will make the night just that little bit extra special. It will be wonderful to meet so many of my friends on Teesside.”
