Willy – or won’t he? Caballero plays it cool

-

WILLY Caballero’s agent has confirmed he has received a late offer from Newcastle United – despite appearing close to agreeing a move to Chelsea.

However, he has cast doubt over whether the free-agent goalkeeper would be willing to move to the North East, describing Newcastle as “cold but pretty”.

Despite that, the 35-year-old Argentinian did spend three years in the rainy North West, so the weather is unlikely to be a decisive factor in where he opts to play.

It had been expected the former Manchester City shot-stopper would move to Stamford Bridge and replace the departed Asmir Begovic as the Blues’ No 2 goalkeeper.

But Rafa Benitez is keen to sign a goalkeeper this summer Willy Caballero and has so far been thwarted in his attempts to be reunited with Napoli’s Pepe Reina.

As a result, the Magpies have submitted an offer to Cabellero’s representatives in the hope of luring the former Malaga stopper to St James’ Park.

Caballero’s agent admits his client is still contemplating his next move, with Adrian Faija confirming the goalkeeper would prefer to stay in England – although he is open to a return to his first club, Boca Juniors, if a firm offer arrives from the Argentinian outfit.

“We have some offers from England, he wants to stay in England,” Adrian Faija told Goal.com.

“Newcastle is cold but pretty and the beaches in Brighton are beautiful as well and easily accessible from London.

“There isn’t an offer from Boca.

“To analyse it, first, we need an offer.

“It needs be real first [before we consider Boca].”
