Kelly PM and the big earners

-

favour country pile, Chequers, as a form of reimbursement which would add a string of zeroes to that amount, but there you go).

And it seems that nowadays the salary of the person who resides at No. 10 is the one by which all other people whose salaries are funded by the public purse are judged.

If you set a person’s worth by their ability at their job, I would argue that May has set the bar very low, although to be fair she almost makes up for her political shortcomings in entertainment value.

But compare May to Gary Lineker, who has got the biggest kicking in some quarters.

Lineker was a very talented footballer who could find the back of the net with aplomb and was much respected by all the teams he played for and is now an excellent broadcast- er. If I’m honest his £1.8m salary was a bit of a whistle inducer but I have no doubt ITV for one would love to poach him and would pay him much more.

Meanwhile May is a failure as a politician after scoring a series of own goals.

She is increasingly disliked and mistrusted by the public while her colleagues are biding their time before they unceremoniously kick her out.

One final thing. How timely for our politicians that this BBC pay list came out in the week of when parliament went into recess - ie holiday time for our MPs.

As May goes off on a yodelling holiday in the Alps, for once it’s not her future and the perilous state of the country we’re talking about. Match of the Day’s Gary Lineker.
