Experience is key when it comes to dace

- BY PAUL ARMSTRONG

LAST Sunday’s Riverfest Qualifier on the River Tyne saw a very good turnout with anglers from across the country travelling to the North East.

Age and experience led the way when 71-year-old Mike Kilpatrick took the honours with 17lb 12ozs of dace taken from above Wylam bridge.

Maver Dynamite star Eddie Bridon took the runner-up spot with 16lb 10ozs of dace from Beaufront, while tying for third place were Andrew Murphy and Pat Adams with 9lb 4ozs apiece.

There was an incredible catch from Whittle Dene’s Northern Reservoir. A common carp weighing an amazing 30lbs was caught by Mr C Ellison.

The ide in Dissington Pond continue to pile the weight on, and are feeding well in the warmer conditions.

Last Tuesday’s BWAC Senior Citizen/Disabled match saw Paul Armstrong take the win with three good ide, along with perch and roach for 15lb 6ozs, (with one of the ide weighing 5lb 1oz being a new club record). Alan Cowan took second with 5lb 9ozs, with Steve Freer completing the top three with 1lb 9oz.

Sunderland FAC fished their Norman Griffin Trophy match last Sunday where Colin Burnett took the win with 5lb 4ozs, followed by Roger Turner with 4lb 10oz and Les Cooper with 4lb 1oz.

Leazes Park’s Annual Pairs match last weekend was won by Alan Robson and Craig Goodhall with a combined weight of 28lb 11ozs. Wednesday’s latest Evening Series event saw Craig Goodhall win with 13lb 12ozs.
