Fantastic Faizan sees off Shields

ON a rain-affected day across the leagues, durham Cricket Academy hosted South Shields in the NEPL and batted first, scoring 191-8, thanks to Scott Steel making 54 and Ross Greenwell 34.

Jamie Dass addied 38 not out, near the end while Sam Taylor-Gell was the pick of the bowlers taking 3-30.

However, the match was won by Faizan Hussain taking a brilliant 8-30, which allowed The Academy a 116-run win, and Shields are now left looking over their shoulders, at the bottom.

In the NYSD, Guisboroug­h travelled to Norton, knowing they had to win this game to help them fight their way out of the relegation places.

They won the toss and Neil Russell was in excellent form with the ball, taking a brilliant 7-17, with Patrick Mitchell top scoring for the home side, with 27 to his name.

In reply, the visitors’ opener Martin Hood scored 28 not out, to see his side home by nine wickets (55-1), in just 12.4 overs.

Shotley Bridge welcomed Consett in the NTSL and the visitors batted first, making just 102 all out. Opener Kamran Mansoor scored 68 of those runs, with Adam Philips returning 4-28.

In reply, Shotley soon won the game, with opener Phillip Brown hitting 50 not out and Paul Greenwell making 41 not out, to win the game comfortabl­y and take the twenty points.

Cramlingto­n gave their NCL relegation hopes a massive boost, when they defeated fellow strugglers Berwick by just one wicket. Berwick took first knock and scored 146-8, with Scott Middlemist scoring 32, Jordan Woodcock 42 and James Patterson 45, with Ian Black returning an excellent 5-25.

When the home side batted, they scored 149-9 in reply, with Daniel Craddock making 38 and Paul Miles 45, to see them home by the narrowest of margins, despite Middlemist (3-39) and Woodcock (4-35) having a good time with the ball.

Durham City and Whiteleas played out a draw, when the teams squared up together in the DCL.

City batted first and made a healthy 221-5, thanks to Jacob McCann scoring 62 and Jonny Harding 41, with Callum Steel adding 64 and Drew Watson contribute­d 40.

The visitors then made 177-4, with skipper Owen Peterson making 43 not out, to save the match.
