Junior anglers show some great prowess

- BY PAUL ARMSTRONG

SPORT over the last week has been a bit slow on some waters with drops in temperature, showers and strong winds making things a little difficult.

However, fish are still feeding and varying baits and approach can get results.

The junior anglers of Big Waters AC and Billingham AC certainly enjoyed the first round of the Angling Trust/Preston Innovations Under 16 Junior league which was held on Lookout Lake at the Angel of the North last Saturday. There was some excellent angling prowess shown by all the kids taking part, which is a credit to their respective clubs for the time invested in teaching these youngsters the way to fish. First place went to Warren Hunter of BWAC with 29lb 11ozs, Kian O’Briam, also of BWAC, followed with 23lb 11oz and Billinghams Logan Heffron took third with 21lb 13ozs.

Sunderland FAC’s Away Daymatch at Stonebridge was won by Brad MacParlin with 45lb 8ozs, George Aitken followed with 14lb 11oz ahead of Roy Gillett with 13lb 2oz.

Steve Tummey took the win in Durham City AC’s latest River Wear match last Sunday. Steve weighed in 10lb 3ozs, ahead of Mick Hinds with 5lb 5ozs and Robert Lindsay with 4lb 14ozs.

Alan Robson won round 11 of the Leazes Park Evening Series with 8lb 4ozs, followed by John White with 5lb 9oz and Tom Woodhouse with 4lb 15ozs.

BWAC’s Dave Jobson Memorial match at Whittle Dene saw Nigel Ripley take the win with 7lb 2ozs, Dave Kirby followed with 4lb 1oz ahead of Mal Wilkinson with 4lb 8oz.

Today, Wansbeck & Cramlington fish an evening series match on Brenkley Pond, Leazes Park AA contest another Summer Series, and Big Waters travel to Cedar Lake for their annual Yorkshire Cup while Sunderland FAC fish on Silksworth.
