Jennings he targets in time

- Stuart Rayner

ACCORDING to the journalist’s manual, Keaton Jennings should be describing his last six weeks as “my England hell” but to hear him speak, it has been anything but.

After being dropped by England, Jennings is back where he is loved, at Durham. He returned in Friday’s 13-run win over Worcestershire, taking a crucial 2-21 and is set to face Warwickshire at home today.

Jennings is wreathed in smiles at the end of Friday’s game, easily the most popular target for the autograph hunters who line up to get the Durham players’ signatures at the end of every game. Long after his team-mates have returned to the dressing room, he is still happily posing for photos and scribbling his name on bats, balls and shirts.

This is not a man feeling sorry for himself.

“I haven’t not enjoyed the last three or four weeks,” he is quick to stress. “It’s been incredibly hard but I’ve absolutely loved it.

“I’ve had experiences that you can’t have anywhere else, pressure that you can’t have anywhere else.

“To be in and around that environment has been a privilege, I’ve absolutely loved it. It’s been tough but I’ve learned loads.

“Hopefully in the next couple of games I can make an impact with the bat but if I can’t, it won’t be through a lack of effort.

“I’ll go away and work on my game as I did on Friday, spending hours and hours hitting balls to get myself back up to the point where I really want to be, scoring
