Pacesetters can’t be split as they share the points

-

IT may be early days to be discussing top of the table clashes, but that is what took place on South Tyneside.

Northern League Division Two’s early pacesetters couldn’t be separated as Hebburn Town and Blyth AFC each took a point in a 1-1 draw.

David Robinson gave the visitors an early lead with an eighth-minute strike, but veteran striker Paul Chow earned the Hornets a point with a delightful chip over Blyth keeper Chris Bannon.

Elsewhere on South Tyneside, there was a historic day for Jarrow FC as they claimed their first win as a Northern League club.

They won a five-goal thriller against Easington Colliery, despite being two goals down in the first 16 minutes.

Jay Redman and David Paul gave the visitors a two-goal lead but Jarrow were on level terms at the break thanks to goals from Nick Quinn and Jordan Mellish.

Max Kirkham was Jarrow’s match-winner as his 79th-minute volley won them all three points.

Northallerton Town won a seven-goal thriller as they hosted West Allotment Celtic.

Stephen Cheeseman’s brace helped them to a 4-3 win, although he did also score one at the wrong end.

Bedlington Terriers came from behind to beat Chester-leStreet Town at Welfare Park.

A 70th-minute penalty from Lee Scott was enough to ensure the Terriers got their first win of the season.

Tow Law Town moved into second place in the table after their 5-3 home win against a Brandon United side still looking for their first win of the campaign.

Daniel Donahue’s goal wasn’t enough to help Alnwick Town take anything away from their visit to Durham City.

Nick Allen’s first-half strike and an own goal ensured that the Citizens took all three points.

Esh Winning and Heaton Stannington shared the points after Max Stoker’s 66th-minute striker cancelled out the Stan’s lead.

That had been given to them by a Jonathan Wright free kick, but the sides had to settle for a point each.

Thornaby were 1-0 winners against Darlington RA thanks to Joe Hillerby’s goal and Whickham gained a notable point with a 1-1 draw at Billingham Town.
