Trio of Canaries to keep an eye on

- Stuart Rayner Sports writer

SUNDERLAND travel to Norwich City today as they look to secure their first Championship win of the season.

The Black Cats kicked off their league campaign with a 1-1 draw against Derby County last Friday as Lewis Grabban’s penalty cancelled out Bradley Johnson’s opener.

Simon Grayson’s side followed that up with a 1-0 win at Bury in the Carabao Cup on Thursday, thanks to a fine effort from George Honeyman.

They now turn their attention back to the Championship as they take on Daniel Farke’s new-look Canaries.

It has been a summer of change in East Anglia, but they too kicked off their season with a draw in the league, before following it up with a win in the Carabao Cup.

Ahead of today’s clash at Carrow Road, we have picked out three Canaries players to keep an eye on.

Jerome has actually been linked with a move to Sunderland this summer but he remains Norwich’s focal point up front.

The 30-year-old scored 16 goals last season and created a further eight for his side.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international has impressed in spells with Paderborn and Darmstadt in Germany and has now followed Farke to test his ability in England.

The central midfielder doesn’t offer much in terms of goals and assists but he is they key link between the defence and attack in Farke’s 3-5-2 system.

German football expert Marcel Chaffer said of Vrancic: “Last season he was one of Darmstadt’s best players in what was a poor season, as they finished bottom and were relegated.”

The Welshman’s 10 goals and nine assists in an average Barnsley side last season made him one of the most highly sought-after free agents this summer.

Norwich moved quickly to wrap up a deal for the 26-year-old and, should he kick on again this season, he will prove to be a useful attacking option for Farke’s side.
