Victory just what doctor ordered
SOUTH SHIELDS WESTOE MEDICALS 44 15
SOUTH Shields Westoe looked to continue their buoyant start – and after four minutes, were awarded a penalty.
The resulting line-out was taken cleanly by Kirton and spun wide and brought back for Elliott to suck in the defence and feed Sam Gaff for an easy run-in.
Gaff crossed again soon after to make it 10-0 but Westoe lost concentration from the restart, the loose ball picked up by Meds’ Fergus, who ran under the post. A Meds penalty brought them level.
A scintillating break from Paul Evans setting up hooker James Sant who finished in the corner.
Three minutes later, Worthington broke the defence again, with great support play from Gaff to Evans, and finally to Arnold who forced his way through several defenders to bring the half-time score to 20-10.
It took 16 minutes for the next score, Gaff crossing the line for his hat-trick, converted by Booth.
Gaff’s fourth came from another scrum. After an infringement at the ruck, Westoe opted for the scrum, Gaff picking from the base and crossing for a 32-10 scoreline.
Meds attacked the restart and after some clever forward interplay, Rooney crossed for the visitors.
Gaff then crossed for his fifth after another dominant line-out.
The victory was complete when Evans again split the defence and offloading to full-back Burrows, who out-paced the chasers for try, converted by Booth.
