Wolves on promotion prowl after mauling Burton

-

WOLVES stormed into the Championship automatic promotion places after a resounding 4-0 victory at struggling Burton.

Nuno’s side raced out of the blocks with two goals in the opening 11 minutes from Jota and Romain Saiss.

Ruben Vinagre added a third just before the break and Leo Bonatini put the game beyond any doubt after 62 minutes.

Second-placed Wolves are now just a point behind lead- ers Cardiff. The Bluebirds were held to a 0-0 draw by Derby at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Sheffield United fell to a 2-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest and slipped down to third.

John Lundstram gave the Blades the lead after just three minutes, but Jason Cummings equalised shortly after.

Kieran Dowell then put the hosts in front in the 27th min- ute and United failed to find an equaliser as Forest ended their three-game losing streak.

Birmingham’s new boss Steve Cotterill watched on as the Blues fell to a comprehensive 6-1 defeat at Hull.

The Blues appointed Cotterill as Harry Redknapp’s successor on Friday, but Lee Carsley was left to take the team at the KCOM Stadium as Cotterill officially takes charge tomorrow.

Bolton remain bottom and without a victory after a 1-0 defeat at in-form Aston Villa.

Jonathan Kodjia picked himself up after being fouled by Mark Beevers to convert a penalty after 39 minutes before Neil Taylor was sent off late on for the hosts.

Elsewhere, Barnsley and Bristol City both picked up 3-1 away wins over Millwall and Ipswich respectively.

Tom Bradshaw’s 40th-minute goal put Barnsley ahead, but, just before half-time, Lee Gregory dusted himself down to convert a penalty for Millwall after being fouled by Matty Pearson.

Bradshaw’s second of the day restored Barnsley’s lead and Mamadou Thiam sealed the victory late on with a penalty after Shane Ferguson fouled Jared Bird.

Goals from Josh Brownhill and Famara Diedhiou put Bristol City 2-0 up after 31 minutes before Martyn Waghorn pulled one back for Ipswich, but Bobby Reid made sure of the three points.
