Manhunt under way after G4S guard is robbed at gunpoint
POLICE are hunting two people after a G4S security guard was robbed at gunpoint.
The terrifying incident occurred at about 2.10pm yesterday in the car park of Asda on High Row, Lemington – about five miles from Newcastle city centre.
Officers have confirmed that two offenders made off on a motorbike and the security guard was left at the scene unhurt but shaken.
One eyewitness said: “Me and my boyfriend were pulling into the car park and I noticed two people on a motorbike that we parked right next to.
“They seemed to be having problems with it and then one of them suddenly ran to the G4S van.”
The witness said the two assailants were wearing bike helmets throughout the whole incident.
At the time of the incident, the supermarket was open and the car park was full of people going about their shopping.
A police helicopter was seen circling overhead in the area and officers cordoned off a section of the car park while they gathered evidence.
Northumbria Police are urging witnesses to contact them on 101 quoting incident number 617 of December 2 or to call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
