Weather fails to stop goals

-

ONLY five games beat the weather yesterday, two of which came in the Premier Division as lowly Gateshead won for only the fourth time in the league this season, edging last season’s champions Killingworth Town 2-1. The Heed moved level with Northbank on 12 points.

The Cumbrians could have been a few points better off but they dropped two in their home game with Ponteland, the sides drawing 3-3, the Pont jumping above Wallington on goal difference into sixth place.

In the First Division, a further two games were played, with 20 goals being netted.

Wallsend Boys Club moved up to ninth with an impressive 9-0 home win over third-bottom Monkseaton.

Six goals to the good at the interval, Boys Club romped home courtesy of a six-goal haul from Ryan McGorrigan, two from Nick Jarvis-Smith, and an additional effort from Brandon Williams.

A further 11 goals were scored at Forest Hall as they moved level on points with Hazlerigg and Hexham in joint fourth with an 8-3 home win against fourthbottom Hebburn Reyrolle.

The visitors dominated a first half which saw the sides go in level at 1-1. After the break, the goals flowed, with the hosts’ eight coming via four from Ryan Latimer, three from Callum Lawson, and one for Craig Pleasant. Reyrolle replied through Scott Canham, Dan Beenshill and Colin McLean.

The only Second Division game saw Prudhoe Youth Club jump into second with a 5-1 home win over 10th-placed Wideopen.

Matty Robinson notched a first-half brace, Sam Mannion scored one in each half, and David Burns added the fifth.

Wideopen replied through Harry Johnson with five minutes remaining.

All other games were postponed.
