CHALLINOR: ENJOY YOUR NIGHT

-

AFC Fylde manager Dave Challinor told his players to bask in the limelight after they secured an FA Cup second-round replay with 2013 winners Wigan.

The National League team trailed at the break to Will Grigg’s well-taken header at Mill Farm and rode their luck as the Latics created numerous chances in their bid to kill the tie.

But Danny Rowe slotted home a 70th-minute penalty to earn a 1-1 draw and ensure Fylde’s name will be in the hat for the third-round draw for the first time.

Challinor said: “The draw is something to look forward to regardless of what happens in the replay. Focus switches straight away to the coming weeks. They’ve got to enjoy this.

“Second half we deserved something on effort alone. We got the luck you need and got ourselves a replay.

“We were under a lot of pressure. I was disappointed that the goal came from our throw-in.”

League One leaders Wigan boss Paul Cook was magnanimous at full-time.

“It’s Fylde’s night and they deserve the credit,” he said.

“They’ll have a tough test back at ours. We’ve avoided the banana skin but it’s disappointing not to win on the night.”
