Support from social media keeps me slim

A YOUNG woman credits social media with helping her to lose more than three stone.

Stevie Miller had managed to drop from 15st to 10st 10lb but, with a busy lifestyle, she found her weight creeping back up.

The 26-year-old, of Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, tried various diets but struggled to stick to the weight loss plans.

It was after trawling Instagram and seeing the success stories of people who’d joined Weight Watchers that she found her inspiration and motivation to lose weight.

Since January, Stevie has dropped from 13st 2lb to 10st 9.5lb – losing 2st 6.5lb in 13 weeks.

She said: “I had lost weight before but then life got in the way and my weight went back up to 14 stone and I started not feeling good about myself, so I looked at Instagram for motivation.

“I saw one of my friends had been doing Weight Watchers and was doing really well and had lost four stone on it.”

Stevie signed up and now she uses her Instagram to keep people up to date with her weight loss journey – from sharing recipe ideas to taking update shots.

She added: “I use my Instagram page to post my meals and recipes, weigh-in results and transformation pictures.

“It is unbelievable how motivating it is being congratulated on a weight loss, and how the continued support pushes me to keep going.”

The council worker said that even when she has bad weeks there is always someone to listen and offload to.

“It’s a support network and it keeps me focused in between one meeting to the next,” she said. “It also keeps me accountable. It’s like a lifeline, and I do owe a lot of my success to it.

“If I have gained weight, even though I thought I had a good week, there are people there to support me, telling me that there is sometimes no explanation for it.”

Stevie said the Weight Watchers’ flexible plan had also been a huge help.

“It is so flexible. If I want to have a pre-packed sandwich for lunch I can, which fits into my lifestyle,” she said. Stevie Miller, 26, after her weight loss and, inset, before
