Brexit jobs warning

THE leader of the TUC used a speech in Newcastle yesterday to warn that tens of thousands of jobs in the North East will be at risk if the Brexit deal goes wrong.

TUC general secretary Frances O’Grady spoke at the Northern TUC annual conference.

She said: “Ministers are so unprepared that we’re still facing a real risk of Britain crashing out of the EU without a deal.

“And if that happens, the North East will be hit harder than any other part of the UK, losing a massive 16% of regional growth.”

Studies by civil servants and academics have shown that the North East is the region of England most at risk from Brexit.
