Strugglers get one over on Moors

-

SPENNYMOOR Town fell out of the National League North playoff places as they were surprised by a defeat at Curzon Ashton.

A first-half goal from Joe Guest was enough for John Flanagan’s strugglers to take all three points and secure their National League North status for a third consecutive year.

Neither side could take control in a scrappy opening 10 minutes with only Moors striker Glen Taylor threatening to score but he saw his effort go well over.

Curzon captain Jonathan Hunt went closest as he headed a Paul Marshall free-kick just past Dan Lowson’s far post. But the dead- The Moors then almost conceded what would have been a killer second goal when winger James Baillie tried to round Lowson but the keeper forced him wide. The loose ball was picked up by Guest and his effort was cleared off the line.

There was one last chance for the Moors but Andrew Johnson could only head over the bar after a Mark Anderson cross.

This was a blow for the Moors but not a mortal one, and they will look to get back on track when they host AFC Telford United on Tuesday night.
