Roo knows the score for Toon game

-

WAYNE Rooney admits he “enjoys” playing against Newcastle - and is looking to improve upon his magnificent scoring record against the Toon.

The 32-year-old has scored 15 goals against the Magpies, more than against any other club, and he netted the winner during Everton’s 1-0 victory at St James’ Park back in December and is hoping to continue his fine scoring form against Newcastle.

“I enjoy playing against them, home and away,” Rooney said. “My goal-scoring record against them is very good and hopefully that will continue on Monday. “They are in a good run of form but hopefully we can stop that run and get ourselves a victory.

“If I got to 100 [away goals] it would be great, too. But I’ve never really looked at records, they’ve come along and only then do I look at them.”

In December, the Magpies were still stuck in the middle of their ninegame winless run and barely conjured up an effort of note against the Toffees. However, Rafa Benitez’s men are go to Merseyside on the back of four straight victories and having allbut secured their top-flight status.

“It’s an important game,” Rooney added with ninth-placed Everton one point and one place above Newcastle.

“We know Newcastle are in good form, they’ve done well in the past few weeks and picked up wins and got lots of points, so we know it will be a tough game.

“It’s important we don’t let any complacency creep in and stay focused on these games and try to win them.”
