Strictly star Vick Hopes to have a ball!

NORTH RADIO GIRL’S DANCING DREAM

- By SIMON MEECHAN simon.meechan@reachplc.com

Reporter JUGGLING DJ work, presenting jobs and being an Amnesty International ambassador means Geordie girl Vick Hope has a lot on her plate.

But the 28-year-old could not resist the chance to compete on Strictly Come Dancing, which kicked off last night.

The Capital Radio breakfast DJ loves dancing, for fun, but Strictly is the first time Vick will formally learn disciplines like ballroom or Latin, although she does have some Tango experience from a year spent working in Buenos Aires.

Not that a heavy workload or breaking out of her comfort zone could deter Vick from committing to stepping out in front of millions on BBC One every Saturday night.

As a teen, Vick dreamed of studying languages at Cambridge University. However, her school, Newcastle’s Dame Allan’s, did not offer Spanish.

But instead of giving up, Vick attended night classes at Gosforth High School and went on to study the course of her dreams.

But before her three years at Cambridge, Vick moved to Argentina for a year, where she landed gigs writing for a national newspaper and working for MTV in Buenos Aires, aged just 19.

It was in Argentina where Vick gained first-hand dance experience, being led around the floor to tango in local danc es.

Vick said: “You go in these clubs – milongas - you go in, have a glass of wine, an empanada and there’s loads of Argentinians dancing. They know it, they’ve been brought up with it.”

But there were no lessons. Vick Hope arriving for the GQ Men of the Year Awards 2018
