Sarah’s exhibition hits the mark
A PHOTOGRAPHIC exhibition is proving a big draw.
Sarah Pickering’s Celestial Objects is currently on show at the DLI Museum and Durham Art Gallery.
The exhibit is Sarah’s first solo show in the region and centres on a series of images inspired by a revolver being fired in total darkness.
Each exposure captures, she says, the entirety of a gunshot from start to finish.
The exhibition also features works from Sarah’s series entitled Explosion, Fire Scene and Incident.
She set up the explosive image using pyrotechnics used in training exercises by the military and police to simulate bombs, artillery and explosives.
Born and raised in Durham, where her family still live, Sarah went to Belmont Comprehensive School and Durham Sixth Form Centre.
Her work has been exhibited at venues including Tate Britain and the Victoria and Albert Museum as well as further afield at FotoMuseum in Antwerp and the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago.
Aim and Fire is at the DLI Museum and Durham Art Gal- lery until January 12.
The exhibition is part of the Social: Encountering Photography, a new international celebration of photography organised by North East Photography Network and shown in different venues across the region during autumn.
