How did your school do?
Schools and eduation bosses across the city are celebrating a successful year of Sats results.
Figures released by the Department of Education today show the number of pupils gaining level four in maths and English has risen by 4% from 79% last year to 83% this year.
This puts the city above the national average of 80% of youngsters clinching the grade in both areas.
Councillor Pat Smith, Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services at Sunderland City Council, said: “The increased level of attainment achieved in Sunderland at Key Stage Two, reflects the hard work of pupils and staff at schools across the city and I would like to congratulate them all on their achievements.
“These results are particularly important as developing our children’s English and mathematics knowledge and abilities is vital to their personal development and school careers.
“We will continue to work with pupils, families and schools to ensure that they have the support and resources they need to enable children in Sunderland to achieve their full potential.”
It was a battle for the top slot with no fewer than five of Wearside’s primaries gaining 100% of pupils achieving level four or above in reading, writing and maths.
St Cuthbert’s RC beat the others to the first place because 46% of its pupils gained a level five or above in each of the areas.
Jane Ward, headteacher at the school, in Grindon Lane, said everyone was thrilled with the results.
She said: “It is wonderful news and testament to all of the staff and children who work so very hard. We are very, very proud of all of their achievements.”
The headteacher said gaining these standards is down to a huge amount of work by both the children, staff and the parents, who are always very supportive of the school.
