TOP10 WINNER REVEALED
Staff and regulars at a Wearside watering hole are raising a glass in celebration after being named the Echo’s Pub of the Year.
The Dolphin, in Ashdown Road, Farringdon, came out on tops after we asked readers to vote for their favourite bar.
Readers were asked to tell us who they think balances charm and history, service and sympathy, and a well- stocked bar with hearty food.
The Dolphin scored the highest out of the list of nominees which included a wide range of Sunderland pubs.
Readers had two weeks to send us their nominations by post to vote for the pub to win the Echo honour.
The Dolphin owner Kel- vin Lamb and Carl Duncan, manager and licensee, were delighted with the award.
The pub has eight parttime staff and three licensees, and a bunch of loyal customers as regulars.
Mr Lamb, who has been in the pub industry for 33 years, says he has seen many changes in that time.
“The pub has been here for 22 years and I have been the owner for the last 12 years,” he said.
“I have seen the changes over the years and there have been many big changes in the pub industry.
“I am really pleased to have won.
“I am pleased for my customers and staff.
“All my customers are regulars and they range from 18- year- olds to 90- year- olds.
“We are just a local pub with local customers and it is the heart of the estate.”
Runner- up for the award was Sinatra’s, in Holmeside, Sunderland, and in third place was The Vane Arms on Vane Street, Silksworth, Sunderland.
