BOMB HOAXER IN BREACH OF COURT ORDER
PEST HURLED ABUSE AT POLICE
A bomb hoaxer who claimed there was an explosive device at Sunderland railway station has breached his suspended sentence.
Serial menace Ian Parkin, 34, has served prison sentences in the past for similar hoaxes.
Last summer, he was given the opportunity to turn his life around, when magistrates suspended his jail sentence for offences of communicating false information and theft.
Now, he has been back at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court after hurling drunken abuse at police.
Prosecutor Paul Doney said officers attended Suffolk Street, in Hendon, on June 25, after receiving a call about a man being assaulted.He said: “Officers saw a male staggering on the road, walking from the pavement and into the road and back again.
“He was asked if he had phoned the police, then asked if he had a knife or any implements.”
The court heard Parkin then became abusive and started swearing, telling police he was going home.
Parkin, of Hudson Road, was arrested, and later admitted being drunk and disorderly.
Mr Doney said the offence puts him in breach of a suspended sentence, imposed on June 18, last year, for the bomb hoax.
Chris Wilson, defending, said: “Mr Parkin accepts culpability for the offence.He has a personality disorder and hears voices in his head.
“He had, in fact, been the victim of an assault.”
The bench decided to make Parkin’s suspended sentence more onerous and added a two-month curfew between 7pm and 7am. He will also have to pay a £40 fine and a £30 victim surcharge.
