Sports week for city academy

-

Rain couldn’t stop play at a city school.

The drizzle didn’t prevent the youngsters at Kepier academy trying their hand at something new.

As part of National School Sports Week, students at the Houghton secondary school were offered a wide range of sporting activities they might not have tried before.

At the Dairy Lane academy the pupils threw themselves into events such as specialised football coaching, the usual school sports of rugby, cricket, netball, tennis, dance and trampolining, and they had the opportunity to take part in events such as surfing, skiing, rifle shooting and frisbee golf along the theme of Try Something Different.

Dave Brennan, community development and marketing manager at the school, said: “Over 200 of our learners enjoyed experiencing a different sport during the week, some were sports they would never get the chance to do.”
