New boys help Ryhope thrive with five

Ryhope CW enjoyed an entertaini­ng 5-2 friendly victory at Crook Town as they build up to the start of the Northern League season.

Summer signings Daniel Mann and James Ellis were among the goals at the Millfield as Gary Pearson’s side put Second Division Crook to the sword. Phil Rudd and Thomas Bott were also among the goals.

Ryhope are back in action tonight, facing Hebburn Town at Horden CW, with a 7pm kick-off.

Sunderland RCA saw their scheduled clash at Team Northumbri­a postponed.

Connor Halpin grabbed a double, with Chris Stephenson and Jack Honour also among the goals, as First Division newcomers Chester-leStreet secured a hard-earned 5-2 victory at Billingham Town.

Michael Hoganson fired a brace as Bishop Auckland secured a 5-0 friendly win at Brandon United. Andrew Johnson, Ryu Williamson and Ian Ward also struck.

Adam Burnicle’s first-half opener earned West Auckland a creditable 1-1 draw at EvoStik League side Workington.

Tow Law Town were also in scoring mode when they put six goals past Northern Alliance outfit Whitley Bay A. Kelvin Thear and Dean Thexton each bagged a brace, with Jamie Clarey and David Hall also on target.

Washington cruised to a 9-1 win at Esh Winning on Friday, with four-goal Mark Davison leading the way. New signing Matty Waters plundered a hat-trick, with John Butler and Gary Shaw also on the scoresheet.

Easington Colliery succumbed to a 6-0 defeat in Friday’s friendly against North Shields.

Lee Mason’s strike was all that separated the teams until the second half when Jack Devlin rifled a four-minute hat-trick. A trialist and Dan Wilson’s late strike made it six.
