Family fun day raises charity cash

-

A retailer’s fundraising family fun day proved a big hit as it generated £800 for charity.

Staff from Easington’s Seaside Lane Co-op store hosted the event in aid of the British Red Cross as part of the retailer’s national charity partnership which aims to tackle loneliness across the UK.

The event at Easington Welfare Hall, was organised by Co-op community pioneer and local fundraiser Gemma Robinson.

Children from Easington Colliery Primary School and Hope Wood Academy, along with members of the public, enjoyed activities including an outdoor funfair, cake sale, tombola, face painting and bouncy castle, as well as entertainment from Easington Colliery band and Captain Raggedy Beard.

Store manager Victoria Wright said: “Gemma did a cracking job of organising such a fun-filled day and we’re over the moon to have raised such a significant amount for the British Red Cross.

“Loneliness does not discriminate; it can affect the young and old, the fit and unwell, those living in cities, but also those living in communities like ours.

“We’re delighted to have been able to contribute to this very worthy cause and would like to extend a very big thank you to all those who came to support us on the day.”

The ball pool and soft play was provided free by Tiny Treasures Children Services, and the tea cups ride by Blizzard Slides and Rides.

Mike Adamson, British Red Cross Chief Executive, said: Thanks to the amazing fundraising efforts of Gemma and her colleagues, and Co-op members and customers, we will be able to provide vital care and support to help thousands .”
