Family heartbroken by dad’s club death
The daughters of a man who died after a nightclub disturbance have led tributes to their hardworking dad.
Kay Allcroft and Kelly Beston, the grown-up daughters of Hetton man Stewart Anderson, have spoken of their loss after the 54-yearold died at the weekend.
Mr Anderson, a freelance tiler by trade, leaves behind two brothers, his daughters and a two-yearold granddaughter.
Today, Mr Anderson’s girls paid tribute to him.
In a statement released through Durham Constabulary, they said: “We are devastated to have lost our dad in such sudden and shocking circumstances.
“Dad was a very hardworking man who, when not at work, was utterly devoted to his beloved granddaughter Neve.
“He will be hugely missed not only by his family but also his circle of friends.”
Mr Anderson’s family wished to express thanks for the support of friends during this difficult time.
They have asked for time to grieve in peace.
Neighbours in Eppleton Row said Mr Anderson was a friendly, quiet man who worked long hours and would always say hello to others.
The force has renewed its appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident during the early hours of Sunday and has information that might assist the investigation to get in touch.
Police were called to the Walkergate complex in Durham at 1am following reports of a disturbance inside the Loveshack club.
When officers arrived they found door staff had detained two men and escorted them outside.
Police said it became clear one of the men was in distress and having health difficulties.
He was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham, but his condition deteriorated and a few hours after he was admitted to hospital he died.
A post-mortem examination was expected to be carried out to establish a formal cause of death.
Seven men were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and one on suspicion of a public order offence.
All eight have now all been released on police bail, pending further inquiries, until the end of September.
Police said no charges have been brought at this stage.
