Gordon is a real catch for Bow School
Durham cricketer Gordon Muchall will swap stumps for studies after being offered a teaching post at his old school.
Batsman Gordon, 33, is to leave Durham County Cricket Club this summer after 14 years, to take up the position of Head of Boys Sport at Bow School, Quarryheads Lane.
And the move is particularly significant for Gordon as Bow is the preparatory school for Durham School, where he spent five years prior to becoming a professional cricketer.
A right-handed batsman and right arm medium pace bowler, he played for Durham for his entire career, scoring just short of 8,000 first-class runs in the process and awarded his country cap in 2005.
“I’m very much looking forward to it,” said Gordon. “I feel ready for a new challenge and this opportunity will give me the chance to share my love of sport in general with a whole new generation.”
Durham School has produced a string of first class county cricketers, including Mike Roseberry, Phil and Robin Weston, Gordon and his brother Paul Muchall.
Head Kieran McLaughlin said: “Gordon’s life has been so intertwined with the county and the school that we are delighted to be welcoming him back.
“Durham School has a proud sporting heritage and we are great believers in the importance of early years coaching in a variety of sports.
“Gordon’s considerable enthusiasm and experience will be great assets to the school – and we’re very much looking forward to seeing him step up to the crease.”
