Uncertain times need steady hand at the helm

-

Business as usual!

This was the message on Brexit at the quarterly meeting of the South Tyneside Area meeting of the newly branded North East England Chamber of Commerce.

More importantly the membership felt it important that we continue to carry on lobbying government on the North East Devolution situation and to ensure we are not left behind.

Closer to home there are still concerns over an ageing workforce and the lack of skills entering the manufacturing and technical sectors overall.

Some positive news, though, is that a number of our members in South Tyneside have gained new contracts and this can only mean increases in employment.

On a personal note, this was my first meeting as chair, and while I am passionate about South Tyneside, I have to make it my key focus to get more input from all businesses in the area.

I would welcome an increased turnout at the area meetings and I am determined to represent the feeling of all our members in the area.

Originally an engineer, I have been involved with South Tyneside businesses now for over 15 years.

I am director of the Advanced Manufacturing Forum, also based in South Tyneside, as is our own business Zenith People and Rising Star.

Each day I hear of the challenges facing business today. It’s a tough market out there, so feel free to contact me to discuss your challenges, issues or for information via alanmetcalfe@ zenithpeople.com or 0191 490 6773 and lets continue to grow South Tyneside together.
