Probe after 12 hurt in bus crash

Police investigat­ors are probing a collision which left mum, children and bus passengers injured appeal for witnesses

Traffic officers piecing together what led to a smash between a bus and a car, which left 12 people hurt, are appealing for help in their inquiry.

The collision, between a white Hyundai i10 hatchback and the 30-seater Go North East bus, happened at about 1.50pm on Tuesday on the A182 road between the A19 and the Spectrum Business Park, in Dawdon, Seaham, approximat­ely 900 metres east of the A19.

The driver of the car, a 36-year-old woman, from Seaham, along with her three children aged 10, seven and two, were taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbro­ugh.

The woman was treated for serious, non life- threatenin­g injuries, with the children treated for minor injuries.

Two of the bus passengers were taken to hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries.

Six of the passengers were injured but did not require hospital treatment.

The bus driver was not injured.

The road was closed for three hours following the crash to allow for vehicle recovery and collision investigat­ion activity.

Pc Ian Cousins, from the roads policing unit, said “I am keen to hear from anyone who saw the collision or either of the vehicles mentioned in the time leading up to the crash.”
